The Water School Uganda (TWSU) headquartered in Kampala, is our major implementing partner in Uganda. TWS Uganda was formed by a group of concerned Ugandan leaders to implement the vision of safe water for citizens of their country. They have their own board of governance and are running successful clean water programs throughout the country. They solicit funding for their cause through Ugandans, as well as international funding agencies including The Water School Canada.
The following are projects administered by The Water School Uganda:
Projects
Kiwoko Hospital Safe Water Project in central Uganda incorporates solar disinfection into the preventative health care programs of the hospital. Hospital instructors visit communities to teach families how to prevent typhoid, cholera and dysentery by practicing good hygiene and cleaning their water with SODIS.
Nebbi Safe Water Project in northwest Uganda was started at the request of government and church leaders whose constituents suffer from regular outbreaks of typhoid and other waterborne diseases. Schools are regularly closed during cholera outbreaks. Over the next three years, 50,000 people will benefit from this partnership.
Busiro Safe Water Project in western Uganda is a new program aimed at addressing the problems of this needy district. The Vice-President of Uganda is participating personally in the project and has been a great help with base-line data collection and motivating his people to participate.
Kyejojo Safe Water Project in western Uganda is a modest project and joint effort of Fountain of Peace Uganda and Fountain of Peace UK. Over 3,000 people in this area will benefit from safe drinking water.
Kisoro Safe Water Project located in the southwest corner of Uganda on the border with Rwanda and DR Congo is a major project started in 2004. It is being expanded through several regions of this large rural area and is being funded in through several international donors The project is impacting the lives of tens of thousands of Ugandans.
Kumi Safe Water Project in northeast Uganda starting in the fall of 2009.
Mbale Safe Water Project in eastern Uganda starting in the fall of 2009.
