The Water School is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Bibiana MacLeod as our Team Leader in Haiti.
Dr. MacLeod is a medical doctor who has served the people of Haiti for many years. She has trained and organized over 60 Haitian community health workers in sustainable health care. Bibi understands the language and culture and has proven to be one of the best in leading communities into long term sustainable health solutions.
An epidemic of cholera, dysentery and typhoid threatens to overwhelm this suffering country. Much of this can be controlled if people practice proper health techniques and have access to clean drinking water. Through the Water School program, Dr. MacLeod and her team will be teaching communities how to produce their own clean water through the miracle of solar disinfection using the sun and plastic bottles.
Dr. MacLeod has just returned to Haiti from Canada to work on implementation of the project. Her initial goal is for a minimum of 90,000 people to benefit from the program over the next 5 years. This figure will expand as other partner agencies join the effort.
The Water School shares Dr. MacLeod’s conviction that pride and self-confidence are best restored through training people to meet their own needs with their own resources as long term development replaces current relief projects in Haiti. The Water School programs focus on development because change is more sustainable when communities take ownership of the programs.
